War Medals

What follows is a great story.

We were doing a job for a customer as he was doing the final clean out of his house prior to moving. We loaded up the usual items - a couch, mattress, bags of garbage - and nothing appeared out of the norm. We completed the job and headed on our way.

Our first stop after was at Habitat for Humanity to drop off some donation items. While we were getting the items off the truck, I noticed that one of the boxes had a small zippered pouch inside and some old patches. I rescued them to have a look - the patches were old RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force patches), but the real find happened when I unzipped the pouch. Inside were 10 Canadian RCAF Medals from the First and Second World War with the earliest dating back to 1914. They were all for service overseas in France, Germany and Italy.

The medals had been engraved on the back and hence we knew that they had to have been our clients father or grandfather.  Knowing that the disposal of these had to have been a mistake, we turned the JustJunk.com truck around and headed back to the client's house, hoping that he was still there. Fortunately he was, and to say the least he was pleased to have his family heirlooms returned.

These medals are amazing pieces of history and a snapshot into a Canadian Airman's experience and we are pleased that we were able to return them to their rightful owner!
